Born in Japan to a Japanese mother and New Zealand father, I moved to Auckland at age 11. After completing a Master of Architecture at the University of Auckland, I spent five years at Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / SANAA, mainly working on the Sydney Modern Project.
In 2021, I founded aki(architects), a multidisciplinary firm, also specialising in community-driven projects that collaborate with residents, artists, and rural communities to explore architecture’s cultural and social impact.
I also serve as a visiting lecturer at Chikushi Women's University, teaching social design and design thinking.

Available to Mentor
While I may not have extensive experience as a formal mentor, I’d be happy to offer insights on working abroad, applying for internships, or navigating international opportunities. I’m also open to sharing my experiences as a female architect in a country with traditional views on gender roles, and discussing the challenges and lessons learned along the way.
Looking For a Mentor
I would be interested in working in New Zealand in the future - either to set up practice, or collaborate with local architects on projects. Since I left New Zealand straight after University, I lack experience in practicing in New Zealand. Would love to hear about what it's like starting up practice in New Zealand, and the challenges facing young practitioners (especially for women).
