My name is Aml Abuharbid. I was born in Christchurch and recently returned to New Zealand after living in Gaza for about 19 years. I hold a Diploma in Architecture (2009) and am now completing my Bachelor of Architecture & Future Environments at Auckland University of Technology, with plans to pursue a master’s and become a certified architect. I am passionate about sustainable design, the creative use of light, and connecting cultural identity to place. I am seeking mentorship and practical experience to better understand architectural practice in Aotearoa and to contribute meaningfully to the profession.
Looking For a Mentor
I am looking for a mentor who can guide me in understanding architectural practice in Aotearoa, particularly in connecting cultural identity, sustainability, and community values within design. As I transition from international experience to studying architecture in New Zealand, I would greatly value support in learning local processes, design approaches, and professional expectations. I hope to gain insight into how architects navigate both creative expression and practical challenges while building confidence in my own path. I am eager to learn, open to feedback, and committed to contributing meaningfully to the profession.
