Jessamine FRASER
A NZ Registered Architect, Jessamine has lived and worked in Auckland, London and Glasgow. Her work has varied from cafe fit outs to large housing development master-plans, and has included heritage work, bespoke residential, social housing and community centres.

Interested in social housing and the importance of the urban landscape, Jessamine has worked with various teams to submit entries to design competitions. In particular, with Tracy Ogden-Cork, of Motu Design Ltd, and under the auspices of Marshall Cook, of Cook Sargisson & Pirie Ltd. she entered into an informal, pro-bono competition to design the proposed Cook Islands Red Cross Head Quarters in Rarotonga in 2005. Whilst the team was successful, the project unfortunately did not proceed as envisaged.

In January-March 2011, Jessamine volunteered with the NGO Azafady in Madagascar for 10 weeks. This involved construction work on a local high school, tree-planting and fuel efficient stove building as well as hygiene education and English lessons with school children.

Veranda House

The clients for this extension have a very family orientated lifestyle, and entertain a lot. They prefer to sit, and eat, outside whenever possible, however in Auckland the rain often keeps them stuck inside. With this in mind, they wanted to extend their kitchen and living area with a new room that had the feeling of a veranda.

Lowering the ceiling of the extension, and including clerestory windows at high level to the original space, with bi-fold doors opening away from the corner, created a space that effortlessly bridges the divide between inside and outside.
