A+W NZ Walking Tour & Edit-a-thon April 2025

Back to the list

Our group was lucky have clear sunny skies for the walking tour on Saturday, where we had Parnell Baths all to ourselves! The touring group learnt about the social and architectural history of the public pools and got to explore the facilities in full. A workshop was then held at the Residium in Parnell with refreshments. 134 images were gathered from the walking tour, free to use in the public domain.

On the Sunday, our dedicated group of editors worked hard in the Auckland Museum Research Library. After introductions, Lisa Maule ran a beginners’ tutorial on editing and editors were tasked with a few basic tasks to get them started. Before lunchtime, everyone had created their user page, and completed their first Wikipedia edit.

The aim of the Wikipedia events is always to increase the visibility of women architects online. Over the entire weekend our 18 participants managed to gather 158 photos, create 21 new articles, edit 54 pages, and complete 704 total edits.

Explore some of our favourite edits:

  • New page on Sally Ogle
  • New page for Jasmax
  • Additions to the Parnell Baths page - new photos and new sections on the gender segregated swimming times when it first opened
  • More of the great photos from the two-day event can be found on Wikimedia Commons

Thank you again to Wikimedia Aotearoa for their generous sponsorship of the event. Thank you also to Auckland Museum and Residium for their support.
