Giving back jade kake interview 01

'Giving Back' - Industry Profile in Build Magazine No 153, April/May 2016, Interview with Jade Kake.

Jade Kake grew up in Australia in a socially and environmentally 'intentional' community, and moved to New Zealand between her BAS and MArch(Prof) degrees. This interview by Dael Climo covers Jade's reasons for returning to New Zealand and her thesis project which developed a proposal for housing on her family land in Te Tai Tokerau.

Jade is a member of Nga Aho, and is involved in developing policy with the Auckland Council (integration of Te Aranga principles in the Urban Design document), Te Matapihi he Tirohanga mo te Iwi Trust (Maori Housing policy) and the NZIA (Kawenata).

'Most intentional communites - such as the one I was raised on - draw on European models. However, there are parallels and transferable lessons between my experiences growing up in Australia and the development of papakainga as a viable model for Maori communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.'
