Architecture in an Expanded Field

(ed) Sarah Treadwell and Lucy Treep

Published by A+W•NZ and Balasaglou Books, Auckland, 2015.

Architecture in an Expanded Field is a collection of essays stemming from the 2013 A+W•NZ Symposium of the same name. Following the well-attended Symposium, Sarah Treadwell put out a request to participants, asking those interested to send in an essay based on their presentation at the event. This volume is a collection of those essays, with a preface by Sarah Treadwell and an introduction by Lucy Treep. As a form of reply to the symposium, an essay by Amanda Reynolds, who couldn't attend the symposium due to being based in London, is also included. Each essay has the style and voice of its author, making this collection an interesting read with wide-ranging views and viewpoints.

All the contributors to the volume graduated with a BArch from The University of Auckland Architecture School and have ended up working in fields separate to, but in someway aligned with, architecture. All the contributors are women. As one of the remits of A+W•NZ is to publish the work of women to establish a permanent record of women and architecture in NZ, this volume sits centrally to A+W•NZ's aims.

Architecture in an Expanded Field had its Book Launch event on Saturday 26 September, 1-2pm, held in the Te Iringa Room, WG308, Sir Paul Reeves Building, AUT.
