People and Planet are principals of my practice. Walking the talk, I became a Homestar Assessor and a Certified Passive House Designer. These two areas are affecting great change and incentives in our build environment to build smarter, more efficiently and with more consideration. I am active in helping the build and design industry navigate the building for climate change challenges which are starting to affect our industry in a large way. Low power bills without compromise in health and comfort and good choices in planet friendly materials are winners. Sustainability can be smart and stunning.

Tairua Towers

This was a concept to explore the possibility of creating a duplex to a holiday home in the Corromandel. This exploration was done long before duplex and density was more common place. There were some challanges for the what the client wanted to see, including a triple story developement on a sloping site.
Ultimately this project stopped at the Planning stage.

Mangataparu Lifestyle Home

This home is for a young couple, intent on living rural life and building their future and family together.

When they came to talk to me, they had an idea of what they wanted, but they also asked for and appreciated architectural design input. The whole process has been a delight with these two. Its really been a team approach right from the start.

The client is the builder and this project is currently on site. The aspiration for this project was to find economical ways to improve the performance of this build with recessed windows, ventilation, and air tightness.

My role on this project is a full service from Concept to Completion, co-ordinating all consultants and Council correspondence.

Sustainable County Living

My clients wanted a sustainable house. A house that was simple, used passive solar design, and considered future scenarios but that also looked good.

The builder, client and a unregistered Architect forms the client team and drawing on a sustainable home already constructed here in Hamilton, we drew on methology and principals to enhance the preformance of this home.

Maeroa Medium Density Developement

Nestled down a cul de sac this gully site with east-facing views over Hamilton City has sat waiting for an opportunity to be shared with a small community. As our plan changes come into immediate effect making multi-dwelling development more achievable, the development seeks to offer high quality 2 bedroom units for the professional or retired persons who wish to experience a small community with a bit of nature in city living.

The units have been designed with privacy, outdoor space, and Passive Design Principals to provide a cost-efficient, comfortable, and healthy home solution. Currently on hold during the Planning stage.

My role for this project was to design to the brief and current planning requirements and liaise with planners to see what was possible on this site.

Mystrey Creek Farm House

This is a rural house for a family with two young boys. The spaces have been considered to allow the couple's parents to come to stay for extended periods, encouraging family interaction whilst still providing space for the boys to retreat to.

My role in this project was from concept through to Building Consent Documentation. I worked with the builder right from the start, coordinating other consultants and taking care of all Council correspondence.

My client constantly years later remarks on how happy they are and how much they valued my contribution.
