Jasmax maori cultural advisory 01

In the Nov / Dec issue of architecture nz is an article written by Justine Harvey on a recently-formed group within Jasmax, who advise the various design teams within the practice on tikanga and appropriate cultural engagement on all projects. These four architectural graduates have created Jasmax Maori Cultural Advisory, with an aim to avoid the 'box-checking' approach to engagement with Maori cultural practice, and to bring fundamental understandings into everyday architectural practice - within the working culture of the practice itself, in design principles, and in engagement with clients and communities.

The group members include A+W•NZ's core group member Elisapeta Heta, Haley Hooper, Brendan Himona and Rameka Alexander-Tu'inukuafe.

The group also publish on Jasmax's website as part of a broader way to connect with all Jasmax staff.

Architecture+Women•NZ salute Jasmax for establishing such a group, and look forward to the day when a true understanding of New Zealand's bicultural status sits easily in the architectural profession.
