Obituary: Dorothy Mahon 1925-2017
12 Apr 2017Our condolences go to the family and friends of Architect Dorothy Mahon, who passed away on 7 April 2017, aged 92 years.
MAHON, Dorothy Isabel (nee Gawith):
Dorothy Gawith was enrolled at the University of Auckland Architecture School in 1944, with other female students such as Lillian Laidlaw (Lillian Chrystall), Muriel Lamb and Susanne Sharp (Susanne Priest). She became a Registered Architect in 1964 (Reg No: 383), and was a member of the NZIA throughout her career and into retirement.
She married Bryan Mahon ( a Lawyer, Mahon and Sumpter), who was the legal mind behind creating cross-lease law in New Zealand initiated in the late 1950s. Dorothy Mahon designed their family home in Lake Pupuke Drive, Takapuna.
Grand-Daughter Celia Mahon-Heap trained at The University of Auckland Architecture School, as did son-in-law Gregory Heap.

A celebration of Doth's life will be held at Purewa Cemetery, 100-102 St Johns Rd, Meadowbank, Auckland at 12pm on Thursday 13th April.
